The Baroque church of Sant'Agata in Trastevere was built in the 18th century and dedicated to martyr and patron saint of nurses, Saint Agatha.
The church is in a little piazza opposite the larger Medieval San Crisogono.
Girolamo Troppa decorated the apse and ceiling with the frescoes of the Assumption of Our Lady.
At the high altar is the altarpiece, the Martyrdom of Saint Agatha, dating to 1713 by Biagio Puccini who also was commissioned for two other altarpieces in the church.
